Mt. San Antonio accepts NATYCAA Cup and Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards in Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. - Mt. San Antonio College had plenty of reasons to celebration during this week's National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administators convention, picking up its seventh consecutive CCCAA NATYCAA Cup championship trophy, as well as lauding swimming and diving standout Jason Harary, who was named the organization's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Mounties also claimed top honors in the Daktronics Cup State Associations Divisions title and was fourth in the Learfield IMG Sports Directors Cup.
The awards were presented during a luncheon earlier this week.
Mt. SAC won the CCCAA title by posting 162 points in the final tally while edging Riverside, which finished with 159 points, and Fresno City, which took third with 152. Sierra College (146.5) led the standings after the midway point of the 2018-19 athletic year and took fourth, followed by American River (143.5), San Joaquin Delta (143.0), El Camino (130.0), Cerritos (113.5) and Orange Coast (112.0).
Colleges are awarded points based on their teams’ final positions in post-conference competition with state championships worth the most points (20). Each college’s top-five men’s and top-five women’s team results count toward the school’s overall point total. Harary's accolades in the classroom and the pool are exceptional. A Brea, California native, Harary boasts a cumulative gpa of 3.82 and has been named to the President's List three times as a business major. In the water, he currently holds multiple program records and is the defending California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) champion in the grueling 400-yard individual medley. At the 2018 CCCAA championship meet, Harary garnered nine All-American honors including five individual events and four relay races en route to being named the Mt. San Antonio Spring Student-Athlete of the Year. Out of the water, Harary volunteers through his church's Bread of Angels Program that helps feed the homeless and for Mt. San Antonio College's Swim Invite Series for high schoolers. At the conclusion of the academic year, Harary plans to transfer to Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis (IUPUI), where he will major in tourism, conventions and event management on an athletics scholarship.
