Clovis names former NCAA Division I head coach Mark Rosen to lead new women’s volleyball program
CLOVIS – Clovis Community College Director of Athletics James Sewell has announced the appointment of Mark Rosen as the Crush's new women's volleyball head coach. Clovis is set to begin competition in the sport next fall during the 2025-26 season.
"We are ecstatic to have Coach Rosen as the first head coach and primary architect of our new women's volleyball program," said Sewell. "His track record speaks for itself, and he is respected as one of the top collegiate coaches in the country at any level. His technical knowledge of the sport is unmatched and coupled with the relationships he's built over 30-plus years in the industry, I'm confident that he is well positioned to help our Crush student-athletes achieve their goals both on and off the court.
"His student-first approach is a great fit for our culture here at Clovis and we are excited to provide more collegiate opportunities for young women in our valley," Sewell added. "I couldn't imagine a better person to join our team and take this challenge on. The future is very bright for Crush Volleyball and we look forward to disrupting the status quo!"
Rosen most recently led the University of Michigan women's volleyball program for 24 years and brings over 30 years of coaching experience as well as a 677-336 career record to the Central Valley.
"I am incredibly excited to be named as the first head volleyball coach in the history of Clovis Community College and look forward to the opportunity to build a successful program to represent the Clovis Crush," said Rosen. "I have been blessed with an amazing number of experiences as a collegiate head coach, but the idea of building a program from the ground up is an awesome opportunity that I couldn't pass up."
Rosen is the winningest coach in Michigan women's volleyball history, having led the Wolverines to a 468-299 overall record from 1999-2023. He guided Michigan to the NCAA Division I Final Four in 2012, as well as two Elite Eight and seven Sweet Sixteen appearances.
Prior to Michigan, Rosen compiled an impressive 134-16 record at Northern Michigan University. As a first-year head coach in 1994, Rosen led Northern Michigan to a NCAA Division II national championship. He followed that with a runner-up finish in 1995 and a pair of trips to the Final Four.
Rosen began his collegiate coaching career at nearby Cal State Bakersfield where he led the Roadrunners to a 57-12 record and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Finals as well as the Final Four.
He also spent one season at Boise State University in 1998 and guided the Broncos to an 18-9 record and a second-place finish in the Big West Conference.
Rosen has coached 39 student-athletes to American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American honors and will look to extend that number next season when the Crush open play.
"We are actively recruiting great student-athletes who will be the first volleyball players to represent the Crush in the fall of 2025," said Rosen. "I can't wait to get started with Team 1!"
A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Rosen earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with a minor in biology from California State University, Northridge (1985) where he was a three-time varsity volleyball letterwinner.
Rosen is married to Fresno State women's volleyball head coach Leisa Rosen. Leisa served as associate head coach at Michigan alongside Mark for 22 seasons.
