North region teams make up 7 of top 8 in State Women's Volleyball Rankings
Complete State Top 25 Rankings
Some upsets in the South region has allowed for a top heavy North influence in this week's CCCWVCA State Women's Volleyball Top 25 rankings. While undefeated Irvine Valley College remains at #1, the next seven spots are all occupied by North teams in #2 Feather River, #3 Fresno City, #4 American River, #5 Folsom Lake, #6 San Joaquin Delta, #7 Cabrillo and #8 Sierra.
Folsom Lake jumped five slots after upsetting Delta in five sets. San Diego Mesa dropped three spots to #9 after being upset by new #14 MiraCosta (was 16th). Grossmont fell three spots to #10 more so because of its loss earlier in PCAC play to Mesa, keeping the Olympians slightly ahead.
Of the final 15 places, only #13 Bakersfield and #24 Cypress remained in the same spots. Orange Coast had the biggest leap of eight slots to #15 after beating Fullerton, now #22, while San Mateo climbed five on the ladder to #20. El Camino moved up a place to #11 as the Warriors are on a 13-match win streak. However, even ECC had a scare in a 5-set win over unranked Rio Hondo, needing to rally from 2-0 down and a 16-14 fifth set.
Unranked Desert upset and ended Chaffey's 14-match win streak in four sets, dropping the Panthers three slots to #18 while unrated Los Angeles Harbor shocked now #23 Pasadena City (fell five spots) in five sets for that program's first-ever win over the Lancers in 31 meetings.
At #17, West Valley continues its bizarro season of ups and downs, this time needing five sets to hold off CC San Francisco, including a 17-15 fifth game. Up to #20, Solano has a 48-set winning streak (16-match string) and Alameda ended a run of 43 consecutive sets in which the Falcons held opponents to less than 20 points, losing a set 2 by a 25-20 count on Oct. 30.
College of the Canyons made it back into the Top 25 at #25 after dropping out a week ago by winning three Western State Conference matches this past week. The Cougars are the only new team to the rankings.
