Mt. SAC's Beck picks up SoCal decathlon title after strong 1,500 performance at Cerritos College
NORWALK, Calif. - Kyle Beck of Mt. San Antonio College, turned in a time of 4 minutes, 41.76 seconds on Wednesday afternoon to overtake Derreck Affor of San Bernardino Valley College in the overall standings and claim first place in the decathlon at the Southern California Multi Championships at Cerritos College.
Beck's time placed him sixth in the event but garnered him 669 points for a two-day total of 5,868, erasing a 119-point deficit he had to Affor before the race. Afford (5,848) took home runner-up honors and will be joined at the state championships next month at Bakersfield College by Beck, Joshua Godfrey (Southwestern), Alixander Morse (Orange Coast), Andrew Fowler (Cerritos) and Tyler Lufkin (Riverside).
A total of 15 competitors took part in the championship.
