No. 5 Tartars Clinch Solo SCC-South Title in 100-95 Win over LA Southwest
For the first time since 2000 and second time in school history, the No. 5 El Camino College Compton Center men’s basketball team clinched an outright South Coast Conference South Division title, defeating LA Southwest, 100-95, on Wednesday evening.

"This is a great accomplishment for our program," ECC Compton Center head coach Keith Higgins said. "We all worked extremely hard as a team to become league champions. Hopefully it is the start of many more to come."
The Tartars improve to 25-4, 8-1 in conference play. The team now has five South Coast Conference titles after ending the 2007 season in a three-way tie and sharing the title in 1998.
"This is a special group that is having a special season," added Higgins. "They have withstood a great amount of adversity but never lost sight of our team goal."
ECC Compton Center led the entire game after the 18:28 mark in the first half by as many as 17, counting 32 points off turnovers, on 28 forced, and counting 26 points at the line.
Jordan Young led the Cougars (13-14, 4-5) with a game-high 29 points.
The Tartars wrap up the regular season at home, hosting Long Beach City on Friday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. Friday's game will also be Sophomore Night, honoring Jayvon Brown, Michael Chavers, Jeremiah Curtis, DaJion Henderson, Calvin House and Alonzo Taylor.
ECC Compton Center Notes: The 2017 South Coast Conference championship is the second outright title in school history; first under head coach Keith Higgins … The team has counted eight 100-plus point games – all wins – with five in conference play … ECC Compton Center is 8-0 on the road this season … The last time ECC Compton Center earned 25 wins in a season was the 1999-00 season when it finished 26-5 overall … Sophomore Alonzo Taylor has counted double-digit points games in each conference contest … In South Coast Conference play, the Tartars are No. 1 for points per game (101.8), field goals made per game (38.2), field goal percentage (52.7) and steals per game (13.8) … The team is No. 1 in the state for total points (2,743), points per game (94.6), field goals made per game (35.7) and steals per game (12.7).
