LANCASTER - The Marauder softball team extended its winning streak to five games after a pair of victories, Friday afternoon against Southwestern, 7-5, following by a 17-7 victory in six innings.
AVC has won nine of its last 10 games with a slight hiccup against Fullerton sandwiched in the middle.
Taylor Roberts was a combined 3-for 5 for both games with two home runs, three runs scored and two RBI. Roberts has now hit eight home runs ranking her No. 2 in the state. Her 31 RBI also ranks No. 2 in the state. Additionally, she earned both wins on the mound, which coincidentally also ranks No. 2 in the state with 11 wins on the mound.
"Honestly, I'm really proud of my team. I'm proud of the way I'm playing. Knowing the way I'm playing is really helping my team out," Roberts said. "These were two games I had to get mentally tough. I had to focus on my mental game because of the weather. My team did an awesome job picking me up. I think we have areas to improve on, but if we continue to work hard we will get over those bumps in the road."
In the first game Roberts pitched a complete game allowing only four earned runs, while scattering eight hits and striking out four. She was solid as well in the second game, allowing five runs and collecting three strikeouts.
AVC's offense had Roberts' back as well. Kaitlynn Dardarr had three RBI including a double in the bottom of the third inning that helped the Marauders battle back from a 5-1 deficit. Isabelle Gomez had a two-RBI single in the same inning for AVC.
In the second game, AVC's bats were jsut as effective. Valerie Dorantes was 2-for-3 with a home run, double, three RBI and three runs. Ashley Fiorelli hit a walk-off grand slam to end the game in six innings for the Marauders.
Sara Weiser and Alexis Robles each had a double and two RBI for AVC.
