And the hits just keep on coming

The Saddleback baseball team won its 12th straight game with a 20-1 shellacking of Fullerton College on Thursday at Doug Fritz Field.  The Bobcats had 20 hits in a game for the second time in three games.

Saddleback's offense is hitting on all cylinders.  The Bobcats have outscored their opponents 54-5 in the past three games, collecting 62 hits in the process.  The latest chapter was a 20-1 blasting of Fullerton on Thursday.

Saddleback scored in four of the first five innings to take a 16-0 lead.  Jacob Naso, Jordan Dissin, Michael Davinni and Cole Koniarsky batted in all of them, getting to the plate in each of the first five innings.

Saddleback scored four runs in the opening inning to take a 4-0 lead.  The big blow was a two-run homer from Luc Stuka over the right field wall to quickly jump out to a 3-0 lead.  Stuka wasn't the only Bobcat to homer in the game as Davinni hit a three-run blast in the third inning as the lead increased to 10-0.

Saddleback put up another crooked inning in the fifth when they scored five more times to take a 16-0 lead.  The Bobcats had five hits and two walks in the inning as Fullerton had no answers on the mound.

Saddleback would finish with 20 hits, 11 walks and a hit-batter on the day.  Lance Gardiner finished 4-for-6 with three RBI.  It was the third straight game that Gardiner has had four hits in a game as he is 12-for-18 with six runs-scored and seven RBI in the past week.  Gardiner's average has jumped 50 points in the past three games and now stands at .359 for the year.

Jacob Naso had seven plate appearances on Thursday, reaching base five times and scoring four runs.  Davinni finished 3-for-5 with five RBI as his team-leading batting average rose to .438.  Dissin (pictured) continued to be hot, going 2-for-2 with three walks and three runs-scored.  He has now hit safely in 19 straight games and has a team-high 46 runs-scored on the season.

Meanwhile, Ryan Farmer quietly picked up his seventh win of the season on the mound.  Farmer started and completed five innings in improving to 7-2 on the season.  He gave way to Jacob Juarez, Eric Schumann, Ryan Sveningson and Ben Peters, who pitched one inning apiece.  The staff finished with seven strikeouts total, with Farmer recording four.

Saddleback is now 31-8 overall and 16-4 in Orange Empire Conference play.  The 12-game winning streak is the longest since the program won 17 straight in 2002.

Saddleback and Fullerton will conclude the three-game series on Friday at Fullerton.  The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
