Scoring runs in bunches, the Cerritos College baseball team posted a 13-9 South Coast Conference win over Compton College on Wednesday. The Falcons  (10-25, 6-14) will close out their series against the Tartars on Monday at 2:30 p.m. in another rain make-up game.

After a scoreless first two innings, Cerritos posted three runs in the third inning and added five more in the fourth inning. Sophomore outfielder Jason Givens (Santa Fe HS) had the big hit in the third inning, a two-run single. He followed that by stealing second and then advancing to third base on an error before scoring on a sacrifice fly by sophomore second baseman Andy Vega (Mary Star of the Sea HS).

Freshman outfielder Nico Briones (Long Beach Millikan HS) opened the fourth inning with a double and after the bases were loaded, freshman designated hitter Anthony Godfrey (Long Beach Millikan HS) drove in a pair with a double, while a single from freshman catcher Conner Sullivan (Palos Verdes HS) plated another run. That was followed by an RBI fielder's choice from sophomore shortstop Julian Francois (Serra HS), with Givens closing out the scoring in the stanza with a sacrifice fly.

Sophomore starting pitcher Rene Galvan (Cathedral HS/Compton College) earned the win, as he tossed the first five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. Sophomore Carter Stoddard (Sunny Hills HS) was the fifth pitcher in the game and earned the save with 1 1/3 innings of relief, which included two strikeouts.

By the end of the game, both Givens (3-for-4, walk, 3 RBI), Sullivan (3-for-4, 4 RBI) and Briones (3-for-6, two runs) had three-hit games, while Godfrey (2-for-4, three runs, 2 RBI) and freshman first baseman Ryan Skjonsby (Long Beach Poly HS), who went 2-for-5, also posting multiple-hit games.
