Cougs drop two at home

Lassen College dropped two tough home matches against Siskiyous, their first home match of the season on Oct. 19, and Butte on Oct. 21.

The Cougs saw many ups and downs, but ultimately the Cougars dropped the match in five sets down to the last point, losing 11-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-16, and 16-18.

Olivia Nord put up a season high 22 kills, followed by a match high nine kills from Taylore Somerville. Olivia Nord also lead the charge in defense scooping up 20 digs, Hannah McLauchlin added in 15 digs and three aces, and Taysha Ortega set up 44 assists.

"This match was a hard one," said Head Coach Amy Morris. "we were so excited to play at home and our nerves got the best of us in set one. We learned a hard lesson in this match, after being up all of set two we dropped it at the end and that is what really put us the position to have to go five sets. On the positive side we had great support in the gym from the community."

Two days later, Lassen hosted Butte in their second home game of the season. The match was tight the whole night, but in game five, Lassen gave up the last two points, losing in five sets, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 21-25, and 15-13. Olivia Nord lead the way again with 14 kills, followed by Jasmin Churchill with nine kills. Hannah McLauchlin added in 20 digs, Taysha Ortega added in 38 assists and Taylore Somerville added in five points from blocking.

"This concluded a very tough week for the Cougars Volleyball team," said Morris. "Losing in five is tough enough but dropping both home matches this week in five by two points each was pretty crushing. We know we have the second half of conference left and are pushing to see better results and get on teams a little earlier than we did this time around."
