Simpson JV steals one from Cougs

The Lassen College Women's Basketball team hosted Simpson University JV on Monday night. Lassen traded leads with Simpson but lost the contest late in the fourth, 45-40.

The two teams traded buckets and recorded a dismal first quarter, ending the first tied 8-8. The Lady Cougars changed things up in the second quarter, using a stingy defense, resulting in a low shooting percentage by Simpson. At the half, the Lassen took a 18-14 lead into the locker room.

Lassen struggled offensively in the third quarter, scoring only seven points. They added another 15 points in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough, falling to Simpson JV at home.

Sophomore center Saniya Walker scored nine points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Sydnei Collier led the Cougs with 13 points.

"We need to cut down on our turnovers and make better shot selections," said Head Coach Derrick Jackson. "Our defense has kept us in the games but we need to answer with more consistent shooting."

Lassen will be back in action this weekend when they travel to the Sierra Tournament in Rocklin where they will face some top-notch teams. The Cougars stand at 2-5 on the season.
