Offense Gets MSJC Baseball Off to 2-0 Start

The MSJC baseball team opened the season over the weekend and scored 28 runs in two games to pick up a pair of victories.

The Eagles opened the season on the road Friday at San Diego City and jumped out to an 11-1 lead after four innings on their way to a 13-8 victory.  MSJC put up 15 hits in the opener and had seven different players drive in runs on the afternoon.  Kyle Serna had two hits including a triple as he drove in 3 runs for MSJC.  Garrett Teunissen blasted his first homer of the season and also collected 3 RBIs for the Eagles.  Robert Jacobsen added a pair of runs driven in while Greg Luna, Will Potter, Andre Torres, and Gavin Copeland all had one RBI.  Derek Ryan was the opening day starter on the mound for MSJC and pitched 5 innings allowing just one run to earn the victory.

MSJC once again got off to a fast start on Saturday in their home opener as they rode a 9 run third inning to a 15-5 victory over visiting Antelope Valley.  Teunissen hit a homer for the second straight day on his way to 4 RBIs and Nico Reyes also sent one over the wall as the Eagles pounded out 16 hits in the game.  MSJC also flashed some speed as the stole 9 bases in the contest.  Chris Scovel earned the pitching victory as he threw 3 innings in relief of starter Nolan LaChappa as the pair combined to throw 7 innings allowing just 3 earned runs and striking out 11.

The Eagles now 2-0 on the season return to action on Thursday when they host West LA in a doubleheader with the first game starting at 10 AM.
