KNIGHTS DROP SEASON SERIES TO #20 BUTTE

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College baseball team was swept on the week by No. 20 Butte College, falling 5-1 at home on Friday and 7-6 on the road Saturday. The Knights lost four out of five of the Golden Valley Conference contests to the Roadrunner.

Stephen Nelson and Jaden Gorge each had four hits on the week to lead the Shasta offense.

Butte 5, Shasta 1
All 10 hits for the Knights were singles and Shasta stranded nine runners on base in the game. Mario Hernandez was 3 for 4, AJ Davies was 2 for 5, Giacomo Crosetti was 1 for 3 with a run and Stephen Nelson was 1 for 3 with a sac fly RBI. Jay Mendez allowed four runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings for Shasta. Tysson Unciano gave up a run on two hits in 1.2 innings of relief and Kaden Nicholes threw the final four hitless frames for the Knights.

Butte 7, Shasta 6
The Knights took a 5-4 lead with a three-run sixth inning and extended the lead to 6-4 in the eighth on Gorge's RBI single. But Butte scored three in the bottom of the eighth as Max Nebel gave up a two-run home run to Cole Dyer for the go-ahead score. Gorge was 4 for 5 with two RBIs and a double, Nelson was 3 for 5 with a double and a run, Nebel was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run, Hayden Boyes was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run, Crosetti was 2 for 5 and Chris Jacobsen was 1 for 2 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Payton Jeffries got the start for the Knights on the mound and gave up three earned runs on six hits over five innings.

Shasta (4-11 GVC, 9-19) wraps up its GVC series against Feather River this week with an away game on Friday followed by a road doubleheader on Saturday. The Golden Eagles beat the Knights by one run in each of their two meetings earlier this season.
