First Athletes of the Month honors go to Bryanna Santis and Tyler Kennedy
SACRAMENTO - Women's water polo standout Bryanna Santis from Fullerton College and football star Tyler Kennedy of Riverside City College turned in outstanding performances during September and were rewarded for their efforts by being named the California Community College Sports Information Association Women's and Men's Athletes of the Month, it was announced on Thursday.
Listed below are recaps for the month for both the winners and honorable mention selections.
WOMEN
Bryanna Santis | Fullerton College | Women's Water Polo | Sophomore
Fullerton Hornets Women’s Water Polo sophomore wing Bryanna Santis (Whittier La Serna) has been solid as a rock for the Fullerton College women's water polo team. The teams is ranked No. 2 as of September 30th, but they beat three ranked teams over the weekend at the Cuesta College Invitational (No.1 Riverside, No. 4 Long Beach, and No. 3 Santa Barbara). Santis scored 11 total goals over the weekend to lead Fullerton. During the month of September, Santis scored 14 goals and was among the state leaders in assists with 23 assists. Last season's, team leader, Bryanna continues to guide her team for another state run.

Tyler Kennedy | Riverside City College | Football | Sophomore
Riverside City Tigers Football 5’10” 185 pound wide receiver and kick returner Tyler Kennedy (Moreno Valley Rancho Verde) Tyler Kennedy has been a force for the top-ranked Tigers as he leads his team with 20 receptions, five receptions-per-game, 281 yards, 70.3 yards-per-game, 14.1 average yards-per-reception and five touchdowns. He has caught at least four passes in all four wins highlighted by a five catch, 132 yards and three touchdowns in a win over San Bernardino. Furthermore, he has been a catalyst in the special team’s game with five kick returns for 234 yards highlighted by a 99 yard kickoff return for the touchdown. He has been named the SCFA Player of the Week on two different occasions.

Nicole Tormey | Riverside City College | Women's Water Polo | Freshman
Riverside City Tigers Women’s Water Polo 5’9” freshman attacker Nicole Tormey (Riverside Poly) has been the leader on both ends of the pool for the top-ranked Tigers. In 14 games played, she has recorded 27 goals, 39 steals, 14 assists and eight drawn ejections. She has scored a goal in all but one game highlighted by a five-goal outburst in a victory over San Joaquin Delta. She has pocketed seven steals on three separate occasion and has drawn a season-high three ejections.
Marqisha Zamudio-Ontiveros | College of the Desert | Women's Soccer | Sophomore
Desert Roadrunners Women’s Soccer 6’0” sophomore goal keeper Marqisha Zamudio-Ontiveros (Thermal Coachella Valley) was a solid performer for College of the Desert in the goal box, starting with her 1st shutout on the season versus Oxnard College on Sept 6th with a 4-0 victory, in which Zamudio-Ontiveros made 3 saves. In the next match, on Sept 13th Zamudio-Ontiveros made 20 saves versus Santiago Canyon (currently ranked #6 in CCCAA) holding the lead for 57 minutes, making some highlight variety saves, unfortunately, 2 surrendered goals in the final 13 minutes served as a 2-1 defeat for COD. On Sept 20th versus Santa Ana (currently ranked #8 in CCCAA), she conceded 1 goal in the 69th minute while making 5 saves. In our Sept 24th contest, Zamudio-Ontiveros made 7 saves versus Taft College keeping COD in the match suffering a 3-1 defeat. On Sept 27th vs LA Valley, Zamudio-Ontiveros made 7 saves in collecting her 2nd shutout for the month, tying the match 0-0. In total for the 5 matches for Sept, Marqisha Zamudio-Ontiveros had a 0.83GAA with 42 saves, 2 shutouts, 6 goals against in 450 minutes played. Making multiple saves keeping her team in the match.

Kameron Pleasant |Cabrillo College | Football | Sophomore
Cabrillo Seahawks Football 6’1” 210 pound wide receiver Kameron Pleasant (Detroit (MI) Mumford). In three games Pleasant has 25 receptions for 468 yards and five touchdowns. Pleasant leads the state in average receiving yards per game with 156, and is tied for average catches per game (8.3) with David Atencio of Golden West College.
Jeremy Moussa | San Bernardino Valley College | Football | Freshman
San Bernardino Valley Wolverines Football 6’4” 215 pound freshman quarterback Jeremy Moussa (Eastvale Eleanor Roosevelt) In the month of September, Moussa threw for 1,740 yards (105 comp, 192 att.) and 21 touchdowns. In the season opener against Santa Ana, he threw for a school-record 636 yards, and a record-tying seven touchdowns. He has thrown for more than 300 yards in each game - with his 307 yards and six touchdowns against LA Southwest coming in three quarters of work in a game that featured an eight-minute fourth quarter.
